Motor Mechanic (Apprentice)
Heavy Vehicle Motor Mechanics are responsible for the service and maintenance of the State Transit fleet (gas and diesel).
Types of jobs may include but are not limited to the following:
- Diagnose and repair brake faults
- Periodic maintenance (eg engine and hub services)
- Diagnose and repair cooling systems
- Extract fault codes and diagnose repairs
- Prepare buses for RTA inspections
- Pin tests
- Parts identification
- Use electronic manuals and electronic diagnostic aids (eg Star Diagnosis; Volvo Impact; Monio; Mobidig)
- Maintain air system integrity (eg doors, compressors, brakes, air lines, tanks, valves)
- Interpret and repair driver book ups
- Service turntables
- Remove and replace transmissions, engines, differentials
Physical Requirements
In the role of Motor Mechanic there are many physical requirements for the position. To ensure you are able to perform all the duties for the apprenticeship you will undertake a medical that will assess your physical capabilities in relation to the critical work demands.
