Family & Me Time

State Transit has some part-time and casual positions available for employees needing more time for family or other personal commitments on an on-going basis.

Part-time work is Monday to Friday for 3 to 5 hours per day either as an early morning shift or late afternoon shift.   Casual employees need to be available at least 3 days a week on a regular basis Monday to Friday.

Other opportunities for more time for you is provided through generous leave benefits including

  • Five weeks annual leave (shift workers)
  • An additional rostered day off every 20 working days (full time only)
  • Option to purchase up to 4 weeks additional annual leave each year
  • Carer’s leave
  • Maternity, adoption and parental leave
  • Career break

The nature of the shift work can also help employees balance work and non-work commitments.

Having days off in the week can provide the time needed to attend school functions or care for children on a weekday.

Working early morning or late afternoon shifts can also free up a lot of additional hours in the day for personal business such as shopping or playing a round of golf.

Although you cannot always be guaranteed the shift you want, the key to getting greater flexibility is to make sure you talk with the Roster Clerk so they know your preferences.
