Safety
To help make your journey safer, State Transit has implemented a number of initiatives. These include:
- Purchasing new buses for the fleet. All new buses are air-conditioned and fully accessible, with kneeling suspension for level entry and a flat no-step floor to make it easier for the less mobile to access
- Installation of digital CCTV systems on all new buses, and retrofitting existing buses. The CCTV system provides enhanced images that can be used to deter anti-social behaviour and assist with the investigation of any incidents that may occur
- Reviewing the interior layout of our buses to reduce the risk of passenger falls
- Installing security screens in buses to protect the driver from assault
- Undertaking Route Risk Assessments to identify hazards associated with certain routes or bus stops. We then work with local councils to reduce or, preferably, eliminate any risks
- Implementing an annual skills maintenance program to provide ongoing training for our drivers
- Development of a seniors program to provide travel tips for the elderly.
- Continuing to participate in NSW Police programs targeting vandalism and anti-social behaviour. We also work with the Police through our joint ‘Operation Bus Stop’ program with the co-ordinated presence of Police onboard buses
- Continually reviewing our processes to ensure responses to emergencies are effectively co-ordinated.
