Route 10 Metrobus to be extended to Maroubra Junction

Minister for Transport David Campbell today joined Minister for Roads, and Maroubra MP, Michael Daley, to announce an extension of the Route 10 Metrobus to Maroubra Junction.

Mr Campbell said the Route 10 Metrobus currently runs between Leichhardt and Kingsford, and would be extended to Maroubra Junction from late October 2009.

"The Route 10 service has proved a success since it began in October last year and the extension of the route from Kingsford to Maroubra Junction will be a boost for local residents," Mr Campbell said.

Over one million passengers have used the service since it began and extending the eastern half of the route will give thousands more passengers the opportunity to jump on these modern, highcapacity, high-frequency PrePay services.

The extension of the Route 10 service will coincide with the introduction of the second stage of the Metrobus network, which will see a total of four additional Metrobus routes rolled out across Sydney by the end of 2010.

"This network will service the most densely populated parts of Sydney, located within a 10 kilometre radius of the CBD, providing almost a quarter of a million extra passenger spaces every week."

Mr Daley said the extension of the Route 10 service would mean more buses, more often, for our local people.

"Locals have contacted me to stress the importance of having extra services on top of the existing bus routes given the growth in patronage along Anzac Parade into the city," Mr Daley said.

"When I heard that the Metrobus network was expanding I wrote to Maroubra residents asking for their support for an extension of the service to Maroubra Junction. Today’s announcement is fantastic news for Maroubra residents because it provides bus services every 10 minutes in the peak periods and every 15 minutes in the off-peak along Anzac Parade to the city."

The Route 10 extension will run on top of all existing buses servicing Maroubra Junction including Routes 393, 394, 395, 396, 397, 399, L94, X94, X96, X97 and X99.

"By delivering this Route 10 Metrobus extension, the NSW Government has provided a huge boost for public transport in Maroubra," he said.
