    Using Your Pass

    The privilege of subsidised travel to and from school places a responsibility on every student to behave in a manner that ensures the safety and comfort of other students, other passengers and bus drivers.

    The SSTS Code of Conduct printed on application forms outlines the behaviour expected of students. The parent/guardian/carer support the code of conduct and declare they have provided an explanation to their child by signing the application form.

    When to use your pass

    Your pass is valid on school days, for travel to and from home and school, between 6.30am and 6.30pm.

    Pass is not available for sports travel except on direct route between home and school.

    For travel outside these conditions, you cannot use your pass and you must pay the correct fare.

    Rules for using your pass

    • image of kids dipping their ticketsThe pass must be validated in the green ticket machine when boarding the bus or the appropriate fare paid.
    • Always carry your pass to school. Keep your pass in a safe place in the plastic wallet provided and present it upon request from any State Transit employee.
    • Pass is non-transferrable and cannot be dipped for another person.
    • Pass is invalid if illegible, torn, mutilated or altered in any way. Lost, damaged or mutilated passes must be replaced. Read about replacement passes.
    • The pass remains the property of State Transit and may be withdrawn if the rules are breached.
    • The pass is issued on condition that the holder complies with the Transport for NSW Code of Conduct while on State Transit services and premises.

    School Special and Regular services

    • image of schoollspecial busStudents using school special services must proceed to the designated bus stop as soon as their class is dismissed.
    • Those travelling on regular services are advised to check the timetable to ensure they don't miss their bus.
    • Check for any school restrictions on regular services, which may be in place during some peak hour services.

    At the bus stop

    • Students are to stand a reasonable distance from the road, refrain from disruptive behaviour and be respectful of other people's property.
    • Board the bus in an orderly manner, dip your ticket every time and take your seat immediately.

    While on the bus

    • image of child offering his seatThe use of offensive or racist language, shouting, fighting, smoking or spitting will not be tolerated.
    • Students must not put their feet on the seats or throw things from the bus.
    • Students must give up their seats to all adults and disabled passengers.
    • Students must obey reasonable directions from the driver and not distract the driver, except in an emergency.
    • Keep arms, legs and heads inside the bus.
    • Students must not vandalise or damage the bus in any way. Any vandalism should be reported to the driver.
    • Follow directions given by the bus driver and show your appreciation by greeting him/her when you board and thanking them when you get off.

    Security cameras on buses

    Digital closed circuit television (CCTV) security systems are being installed on all State Transit buses to record events that happen on the bus. This helps to identify those who commit offences and improve passenger safety.

    In cases of crimes or serious misbehaviour, the recorded footage will be handed over to police to assist in their investigations.

    What you can do

    image of child calling 131500The bad behaviour of a minority of students causes distress and offence to other passengers. This behaviour is not only unpleasant but can be dangerous for all aboard the bus.

    Students and carers are encouraged to phone 131500 to report in confidence any concerns about safety on the bus while travelling to and from school. By reporting your concern, a dangerous situation can be prevented in the future.
