How can I look after my ticket?
It’s your responsibility to look after your ticket, just as you would a credit card, cash or other valuable items.
Only faulty tickets will be replaced, so it is worth taking a little extra care using and storing your ticket.
Your ticket should be stored in a clean and dry location that keeps the ticket straight at all times.
Don’t damage your ticket by:
- Folding, bending or twisting your ticket
- Cutting or tearing your ticket
- Allowing it to become dirty with grime or other foreign substances
- Washing or immersing your ticket in water
- Removing or tampering with the magnetic stripe or any trip detail
- Leaving your ticket in the sun or next to a heat source
- Exposing your ticket to strong magnets.
Some tickets, if they become faulty or damaged after initial use and are unable to be used in the ticket machine, can be used as a flash pass.
If the ticket has an expiry date printed on it, just show the ticket to the driver upon entering the bus or to the gate hand at train stations and ferry wharves. The expiry date must be clearly visible on the ticket.
Tickets that can be used as a flash pass if faulty (that bear a valid expiry date), include:
- TravelPass
- DayTripper
- BusTripper
- Pensioner Excursion
- School Student Pass
- SydneyPass, Sydney Explorer & Bondi Explorer
TravelTen tickets, if faulty or damaged, cannot be used as a valid ticket. If your TravelTen ticket is faulty, you can apply for a replacement ticket to be mailed to you.
When am I entitled to a replacement ticket?
If your ticket fails to validate in the ticket machine, firstly check that you have inserted it correctly. If in doubt, ask the bus operator.
If you are using a TravelTen ticket and it still fails to work, you may be entitled to a replacement ticket.
For other ticket types, please see the information above. Only faulty tickets and not damaged ones, will be replaced.
Tickets must not show any sign of physical or magnetic damage.
