Revenue Protection

Fare Evasion - it costs us all

Revenue Protection Officer For a pleasant, troublefree journey, make sure you buy a valid ticket before you travel. Sydney Buses and Newcastle buses and ferries staff can request to see your ticket and concession authority card at any time. You must always be in possession of a valid ticket. You can incur an on-the-spot fine of $100 or more for:

  • Travelling without a ticket
  • Over-riding (travelling further than your purchased ticket entitles you to)
  • Avoiding the use of any installed automatic ticket systems or barriers
  • Not carrying your concession entitlement card with you

State Transit Revenue Protection Officers

State Transit Revenue Protection officers monitor the entire State Transit bus network to ensure that you have a safe and trouble-free journey. They undergo special training courses in order to perform the following functions:

  • Ensure that passengers possess the correct tickets and passes for the bus journey they are undertaking. If necessary they will issue on-the-spot fines to bus travellers who have not paid the correct fare.
  • The officers may supervise passengers on buses or at bus stops and waiting areas in order to avoid congestion and to facilitate orderly boarding and travel.
  • Ensure that bus passengers do not engage in disorderly behaviour that threatens the comfort and safety of other passengers.

So play fair by paying the fare! If you don't, getting caught is just a matter of time.
