Fines
Tough on-the-spot fines apply to fare evasion and anti-social behaviour on Sydney Bus and Newcastle Bus and Ferry services.
Some examples are as follows:

| Depositing litter | $200 | $550 |
| Damaging vehicles or property through graffiti or vandalism | $200 | $550 |
| Putting feet on seats | $200 | $550 |
State Transit officers, in conjunction with the NSW police, regularly patrol bus services. They have the authority to issue caution notices, on-the-spot fines and to request the cooperation of passengers to travel in an orderly manner, without disruption to other passengers.
Payment of fines
An infringement notice issued by State Transit staff or the police will request payment within 21 days. Payment can be made by mail to:
